Whale Broad-Scale Distribution

We will collect sightings of fin and humpback whales during routine annual AFSC/NOAA walleye pollock stock assessment surveys. We will then analyze the sightings to estimate whale  density and abundance. We will also analyze whale distribution data and density estimates in terms of oceanographic and bathymetric variables, prey distribution, and prey density to investigate whale habitat characteristics and to create predictive distribution models. We will include sightings of other cetaceans as sample sizes permit.
